QUEENSLAND UNCORKED Celebrating Queensland Wine
Dinner: Thursday 8 October 2009
Join AustCham and Trade Queensland Hong Kong and Macau for an evening of award winning Queensland wines matched with delicious Chinese cuisine.
Sip and savour world class Chardonnays, luscious Merlots, a supple Shiraz or two, and classic Cabernet Sauvignons as our special guest winemakers teach you how to match Australian wine with the flavours from the Canton, Sichuan and Shanghai regions.
Renowned wine experts Simon Tam and Eddie McDougall, of the Independent Wine Centre and South China Morning Post fame, are well known for bringing cutting edge practical knowledge to the local wine scene and will be on hand to guide you.
Vines have been cultivated and wines made in Queensland since the 1860’s. We are pleased to introduce you to some of Queensland’s award winning vineyards …
Sirromet Wines– located in Mount Cotton, a short drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Sirromet Wines offer a state-of-the-art vineyard, winery, cellar door and restaurant serving Sirromet’s best wines which have captured close to 360 prestigious national and international wine awards. Recent winner is Sirromet’s Seven Scenes 2007 Chardonnay awarded in the Chardonnay du Monde in France as one of world’s best Chardonnay wines.
Jimbour Wines – Jimbour Station is 52 acres of “Living History” on the Darling Downs dating back to 1841, with heritage-listed architecture and immaculate gardens. Under the guidance of recognised winemaker Peter Scudamore-Smith M.W., Jimbour recently won Gold for its Ludwig Leichardt Shiraz 07 at the San Francisco International Wine Show, one of world’s most prestigious wine judging events.
Symphony Hill Wines– named after “Symphony of Life” by winery owner Ewen Macpherson, Symphony Hill Wines was voted in the top 50 wines in 2008 by Australian Wine Business. The winery was rated 4.5 stars by internationally renowned wine critic James Halliday in 2007 and 2008 with 22 different Symphony Hill wines rated 4 stars or more. The 2006 Reserve Shiraz was recently awarded a gold medal and the highest scoring red wine at the 2009 Sydney Royal Wine Show.
